Are you using Reddit yet? By using the network, you can keep track of what’s popular on the Internet in any given niche, at any time. If you are in a business that relies on ideas, Reddit is a great resource for you to find tons of information from many sources in a short amount of time.
My son has been nagging me for month’s to start using Reddit, and even got my mom hooked on it. But every time I went to the site, I was overwhelmed by the number of links and confused by how it worked. Finally, I found this Infographic and decided it was time to jump in and join this social network.
What is Reddit and How Does It Work?
Also known as “The Front Page of the Internet,” Reddit is a popular social bookmarking community, with over 114 million users from 190 countries (as of March 2014). When someone submits a story to Reddit, the members or Redittors can vote the content up or down based on how they like the content. Up-voted content gets more visibility while down-voted content eventually disappears. The “Front Page” consists of the top voted articles from all the subreddits combined.
Members can add comments to any story as well. As they contribute and comment, they earn “karma” based on what other members think of them. “Karma” is a good indicator of the level of trust from other members.
How To Use Reddit
Look at your subreddits and get rid of the ones you don’t care about. Focus on the ones that interest you and that you are knowledgeable about. Then jump in and comment on things so you can get a feel for how things work. Many times, comments are more valuable than the originally submitted material. If you read each subreddit’s FAQ section, it will outline what’s allowed and what’s not.
Submit articles, photos, and videos you think are interesting or would be valuable to the members of the subreddits. Engage in other people’s submissions by voting up or down but make sure you’re voting on content you’ve viewed.
